Stop the Cycle of Abuse began with a crazy idea in 2012 when John Frugo and Lynette Garrett decided to ride from Bloomington, Illinois to SanDiego, California.
This ride was to be a personal adventure but both wanted to make it something more. They knew they were going to ride but thought it would be great to help a kid along the way.
Over the course of six weeks, they managed to raise $12,000 and a bit of awareness of child abuse and its issues, but they knew they wanted to do more. It wasn't until after the second STC ride in 2013 that our team truly formed.
It was during this six day journey, a journey that covered 360 miles and raised over $60,000, that lives where changed. People who started out as strangers became friends, became family, became a team!
Veteran cyclists encouraged our less experienced riders and our less experienced riders inspired our veteran cyclists with their determination! No one was ready for the adventure to be over!
In April 2014, during Child Abuse Awareness month, Cyclingforkids incorporated and seven of our "360 Riders" formed our Board of Directors. We are now thrilled to offer three rides a year.
